    ELECTION 2008

Keeping track of the candidates can be a daunting task.  We offer the following comparison piece to help you sort them all out.

    Presidential Comparison Flier

    Abortion Facts

FACT: Abortion is legal in our country during the ENTIRE nine months of pregnancy for ANY reason.

Abortions to save the life of the mother, or for the health of the mother, are two very different statements. “Life” and “health” are often used interchangeably but they mean very different things. The pro-life and pro-abortion sides are in agreement when it comes to saving the life of the mother.

However, when you think about an abortion for the “health of the mother”, you need to understand the legal definition of “health.”  All factors are to be considered — physical, emotional, psychological, familial and the woman’s age. This means abortions are legal on demand for the entire nine months of pregnancy.

    FACT: Abortion hurts women.

Statistics show there are long term physical and psychological health consequences of induced abortion. These include the increased risk of breast cancer, placenta previa, pre-term births, depression, guilt and suicide.

FACT:  An unborn baby is sensitive to sound, touch, heat, light and PAIN.

There is no form of abortion that is humane, even early in the pregnancy as documented in the video “The Silent Scream.”  This is ultrasound imaging of a first trimester abortion and can be found at:  www.silentscream.org

FACT:  About 93% of the 3,700 abortions performed each day are for convenience.

The vast majority of abortions are used for birth control.

FACT: 1% of all abortions occur because of rape or incest; 6% of abortions occur because of potential health problems regarding either the mother or child.

Rape and incest are horrific crimes and those who commit these crimes should be punished and their victims should be supported.  While pro-life people abhor the violence of rape, abortion doesn’t undo the harm that has been caused.

Every unborn child, regardless of how they were conceived, is a living human being who deserves to be protected.

FACT: An unborn baby can be considered the victim of murder or negligent homicide if killed by anyone other than the mother. But that same unborn baby can be aborted by her mother at any time during the pregnancy for any reason as her legal “choice.”

Legalized abortion has led us to contradictions in law concerning the unborn.  When a pregnant woman decides to carry a baby to term, more than half of our American states recognize her unborn child as a “person” in their homicide laws.

    Unborn Baby at 11 Weeks

The unborn child at 10 weeks is already more then 2 inches long.  She can suck her thumb, make a fist, squint and swallow.  Brain waves have been recorded since day 43.  Her heart has been beating since day 25.  She has fingerprints.  She is sensitive to heat, touch, light, noise, and PAIN.  All organs are present and working.  She now weighs about 1 ounce.  She can fit into the palm of your hand.  All she needs now is nourishment and the chance to grow.

Vaccines, Abortion, and Fetal Tissue

For several years now, information has circulated among prolife groups and individuals regarding the development of very common vaccines through the use of tissue taken from aborted babies. Learn more about vaccines, fetal tissue, and abortion with this fact sheet. PDF

        The Great Stem Cell Debate

Adult Stem Cell Research

  • The extraction of stem cells from adults and umbilical cord blood causes no harm to the patient. These are completely life-affirming options of research. Cures to diseases can be found without killing human beings.
  •  Research using stem cells obtained from adults and umbilical cord blood has been used to help thousands of people with various ailments. At least 73 diseases have been helped with the use of adult stem cells including Parkinson’s, spinal cord injuries, various forms of leukemia, heart damage, and various forms of cancer.

Embryonic Stem Cell Research

  • The extraction of embryonic stem cells from a human embryo kills the human embryo, an innocent human being. Embryonic stem cell research forces human beings to sacrifice their life without consent in the vague hope that their cells might one day cure another human being.
  •  Embryonic stem cell research has yet to cure a single patient of a single disease. Any possible test treatments are at least a decade away. To get people to support this kind of destructive research, proponents have created a fairy tale, promising that cures are at the fingertips of scientists when this isn’t the case.

The Ethics Involved

  • One of the most important issues in the debate over stem cell research is the ethics involved.  Taking the life of a human being at any stage in development for research is ethically wrong.
  •  Medical advancement should continue but not through the taking of human life. No human being should be forced to be made the subject of research without their permission, especially if that research leads directly to their destruction. Even death row inmates cannot be experimented upon or have their organs removed, without their consent.

A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

The Ultrasound Viewing Option was signed into law in Michigan on March 24, 2006.  The law took effect immediately and requires abortion providers to ask the mother if she would like to see the ultrasound of her baby, any time an ultrasound is performed, before the actual abortion procedure. She is also offered a printed copy of the ultrasound to take with her.

Those who work with women who are experiencing surprise pregnancies tell us that up to 84 percent of women who are abortion minded, and then see their unborn baby in an ultrasound,

choose to bring their baby to term.
